České Budějovice, 24th January – The sales of "Blessed Lager" took place during the 2018 Advent Market in České Budějovice. The beer came from a special batch blessed by Mons. Vlastimil Kročil, Bishop of České Budějovice, on 7th September last year. Subsequently, the Holy Father, Pope Francis received 123 one-litre hand-packed bottles from this batch in December.
"I would like to thank everyone who bought the ‘Blessed Lager’. Thanks to them, we gained CZK 216,000, which will be handed over to the Diocesan Charity of České Budějovice. I also wish to thank all the volunteers involved in hand-packing the bottles and in the sales during the Advent Market,” says Petr Dvořák, Budweiser Budvar’s managing director.
Volunteers from the brewery, the Diocesan Charity of České Budějovice, the Bishopric of České Budějovice and the Town of České Budějovice participated in the sale of "Blessed Lager" at the stall on České Budějovice square. During 22 advent days, all bottles hand-packed by volunteers from Budweiser Budvar on 28th November last year were sold at the stall - a total of 3,000 pieces. In addition, 1,400 pints of "Blessed Lager" were drawn in the stall. The Masné krámy and Vatican restaurants also participated in the event where their guests consumed another 2,000 pints there.
