Lagers from Budweiser Budvar Brewery have been awarded three gold medals in a world quality competition

Budweiser Budvar Premium Lager received the prestigious gold medal “Grand Gold” at this year’s international competition of product’s quality testing “Monde Selection” (www.monde-selection.com/en/). Such an award is granted only to exceptional products which meet various parameters of quality. In the case of beer, the testing involved an expert evaluation of sensory qualities and laboratory analyses. Twenty so-called organoleptic parameters were assessed. The tasting was carried out by a board of independent experts from the brewing industry, university professors and professional taste testers. Many of the board members work for the Belgian Meurice Institute (www.heldb.be/he/meurice), which is considered a worldwide renowned expert organization in the field of brewing and fermentation technology.

Budweiser Budvar’s two other products were also awarded gold medals. Budweiser Budvar Dark Lager extended its collection of local and international awards onto the amount of ten, being on the market since 2004, while 11° Pardál Echt Pale Lager has been retailed only since last June; the gold medal from the Monde Selection is its first quality award.

“Having been awarded three gold medals represents a great success for us. At the same time it is good news for our customers. The independent expert panel examined many parameters; each of them had to meet the required criteria. The awards in this competition therefore stand for a complex assessment of our beer’s quality. We are also pleased to be awarded repeatedly in this competition,” stated Budweiser Budvar’s maltster Adam Brož. Budweiser Budvar Premium Lager has been awarded as many as six gold medals in Monde Selection since 1987, having been maintaining top quality in the long term. From 1999 to 2001, Budvar’s beer specialty Bud Premier Select was awarded two gold and one silver medal at the Monde Selection.

The Monde Selection competition has been organised by The International Institute for Quality Selections located in Brussels since 1961. Throughout the 49 years, it became one of the largest as well as the most prestigious events of its kind worldwide. This year saw 2,451 products of 836 producers from 83 countries apply. 274 samples from 98 breweries in 64 countries were tested in the beer category.
