Budweiser Budvar’s pale lager has been awarded a bronze medal at an Australian prestigious competition

The beer from Budweiser Budvar Brewery has received yet another international award, as the prestigious international contest of Australian International Beer Awards in Melbourne witnessed Budweiser Budvar Premium Lager being awarded a bronze medal. 243 breweries from 34 countries took part in the competition, with a total of 1,170 beer samples applied in all segments.

“We believe that this award is going to support further advancement of our export to Australia, which we consider a perspective market as we have been accomplishing a very interesting sales volume so far,” says Budweiser Budvar’s export manager for Australia Tomáš Bártů.

Budweiser Budvar has been exporting its beer to Down under since 2004, having been accomplishing very good business results. While the volume of beer sold amounted to only 380 hectolitres during the first year, the brewery managed to increase that volume eight-fold in a mere five years. Last year’s sales in Australia reached 3,100 hectolitres, which is 35% more compared to the year before. The retail of drawn pale lager has also been thriving in this country, since it variegated the offer of restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide last July. The price for half a litre of drawn Budvar ranges around AUD 7 (app. CZK 125). The dynamic development in Australia has been continuing this year as well and Budweiser Budvar anticipates a further sales increase in this market, which should also be aided by launching supplies of dark lager four weeks ago.

Established in 1993, the Australian International Beer Awards enjoy ever growing interest from experts as well as consumers. The event is considered the third largest professional beer contest in the world. The panel grants awards only to beers which meet a combination of very tough quality criteria, particularly well-balanced flavour, aroma and overall look.
