Bearing the additional title of a “Show Full to the Edge”, this year’s Open Day in Budvar will recall the 115th anniversary of the brewery’s founding. Nearly 20 bands and performers will convince you that the event’s name is not an overstatement whatsoever, as from 10 am they will look after your good mood on three stages. In case of poor weather, the roofed main BUDVAR stage can shelter up to 2,000 people. The brewery’s premises offer more than 1,200 sitting places.
Besides the entertaining programme, visitors can view free the brewing area of the brewery as well as the multimedia exposition “The Tale of the Beer from Budweis”, which will take place every 20 minutes from 10 am until 5.40 pm. After showing stamps of 4 Pardál beers consumed and a fee of CZK 40, the visitors will also have a chance to make a design on an original Pardál T-shirt (which they can directly wear) or design a carton package on Pardál beer with the possibility to win 100 bottles of Pardál at the Pardál stage.
Additionally, the following special souvenirs produced on the occasion of 115th anniversary of the brewery’s founding will be on sale: gift 4-pack with beer of choice, paper beer mats, gift boxes with a bottle and a glass as well as unique 0.5 litre beer glasses, with only 1,500 pieces made.
Refreshments along with soft drinks will be available in the premises for the whole day, so will be the entire range of Budweiser Budvar products in 30 tap stands, non-pasteurised Budweiser Budvar Premium Lager in particular. To get to the brewery, the “Budvarbus” can be used free on every hour on the route “Train station - Mariánské náměstí square - Budvar and back”. The first bus leaves at 9.30 am from the train station and the last one at 5 pm from Budvar.
Last year’s “Open Day in Budvar” was attended by approximately 10,000 people. 1,950 visitors viewed the production premises and a further 1,050 people saw the multimedia exposition “The Tale of the Beer from Budweis”.

The origination of Budweiser Budvar
The town of České Budějovice used to be a mixed- nation town in the 19th century. Nonetheless, the economics was run by companies owned by the German part of the population. Since the electoral regulations then distinguished the voters in relation to their possessions and the amount of tax paid, the local Czechs had no representation at the České Budějovice town hall despite their majority. In order to establish themselves on the political level, they had to build up their economic position. For that reason, “Czech” companies were founded in the last third of the 19th century, one of them being the Czech Joint Stock Brewery - Budweiser Budvar’s direct predecessor. Its origination was mainly initiated by Czech brewers (August Zátka and many others). The date of Budweiser Budvar’s foundation or more precisely the Czech Joint Stock Brewery’s foundation is considered to be the 15th April 1895, when the shareholders general meeting took place to elect the first executive board. The 7th October 1895 is regarded as another important day, since the first official batch of a mere 200 hectolitres of beer was brewed then. The Czech Joint Stock Brewery’s sales amounted to 51,100 hectolitres of beer by the end of 1896.
