Budweiser Budvar has prepared special theatrical tours in historical costumes

The first evening tour starts tomorrow 26.8.at 7.30 p.m. Four other theatrical tours are planned for September and the beginning of October. The entrance fee is CZK 200.  

This year, Budweiser Budvar, N.C. is commemorating the 120th anniversary of its founding. On 15th April 1895, the founding general meeting of shareholders of the “Czech Joint Stock Brewery in České Budějovice” (hereinafter referred to as “CJSB”), which is the direct predecessor of today's Budweiser Budvar, took place. On 7th October 1895, the brewing master Antonín Holeček brewed the first batch of beer of a mere 200 hectolitres. The CJSB directly followed in the historical tradition of brewing the original Beer from Budweis in České Budejovice, which is 750 years old, beginning to develop it further and keeping it for next generations. When brewing the Beer from Budweis, Budvar brewing masters follow time-tested craftsman procedures, using only original ingredients. On the occasion of the celebrations of such an important anniversary several limited editions of Budweiser Budvar beer have occurred on the market this year already. Furthermore, the brewery prepared some cultural events for the public as well, one of them being theatrical evening tours in historical costumes.  

“The theatrical evening tours combine an expert commentary about the brewery and some acting in realistic period costumes. The visitors can literally travel through time, transposing themselves to the times of the brewery’s founding and other key points in its long history,” says Budweiser Budvar’s gastronomy department manager Tomáš Olejník, who is responsible for the services of the Visitor Centre. The short scenes are based on real facts. “The background documents for the scenes were found in the minutes of the board meeting of the Czech Joint Stock Brewery. We tried to draw near to the real looks - as far as we know - of the historical personalities who appear in the scenes. I think in some cases - such as the personality of the brewery’s first brewing master Antonín Holeček we really managed that well,” says Ivo Hajn from Budweiser Budvar who participated on the project. The script and production was provided by České Budějovice agency Kultur-Kontakt, which has organized e.g. the popular “Walks though the history” for many years.  

The first tour of Budweiser Budvar takes place tomorrow at 7.30 p.m. Anyone interested can come to the Visitor Centre vestibule. Other theatrical tours take place on 16. 9., 23. 9., 30. 9. and 7. 10. 2015.
