Pale lager from Budweiser Budvar won a silver medal in the USA

Pale lager from Budweiser Budvar won a silver medal in the “New York International Beer Competition” in the “Lager Beer Styles - European and German Origin” category as well as being awarded the “Czech Beer of the Year”. In the USA this beer is sold under the CZECHVAR brand. The panel of sales representatives, beer bar owners, distributors and importers evaluated more than 400 samples of beer and cider from 12 countries. “We are thrilled about Czechvar being awarded two medals in the New York International Beer Competition this year. In addition to that, it is bringing home the title ‘Czech Beer of the Year’ from this competition for the third time in a row,” says Georgia Homsany, brand director for Czechvar in the USA from the United States Beverage company. “Czechvar is regularly awarded in competitions, in which it takes part. The reason is a 100% content of natural Czech ingredients providing the beer with a premium flavour, which especially plays a key role in beating other lagers. The identity of Czechvar and its quality are appreciated by beer experts around the world,” adds Georgia Homsany. Over the last three years, the Czechvar brand has been awarded 8 medals in competitions in the USA.

“Each medal is significantly instrumental in spreading the awareness of the young Czechvar brand, especially among the expert public and consumers seeking extraordinary types of beer, who can appreciate a genuine quality. The medals repeatedly received within competitions in the USA are well valued, as the American market is the toughest and most competitive market in the world,” Budweiser Budvar’s Export Sales Department manager Renata Pánková evaluates the result.

Since 2012, the CZECHVAR brand has been distributed to the USA by the “United States Beverage” company, which focuses on the import and distribution of premium and so-called “craft beer” brands to the USA. CZECHVAR Pale Lager in bottles and barrels is currently being exported to the USA, as well as  dark lager in bottles.

The CZECHVAR brand was created for the North American market in 2000, as Budweiser Budvar cannot use its traditional trademarks of “Budweiser Budvar”, “Budweiser”, “Budweis” and “Bud” in the territory north of Panama under the trademark contract of 1939. Therefore,   only the abbreviation of “B.B.N.P.”, consisting of the initial letters of the brewery’s full name in Czech (Budějovický Budvar, národní podnik), is mentioned on the CZECHVAR beer labels instead of the producer’s name.
