Last year Budweiser Budvar beer increased its beer production, reaching record sales
České Budějovice, 31st January 2019 – The national brewery Budweiser Budvar experienced a successful year. Its beer sales grew by 3.6% year-on-year to 1.602 million hectolitres last year, which is the second highest production during the 123 years of the corporation’s existence. Lagers were most instrumental in the increase, as their sales grew by 7% year-on-year. In 2018, the brewery thus brewed the most lager in its history and its share in the total production of the brewery reached almost 75%.
In addition, the brewery was successful in business last year as well, which was reflected in historically record receipts from beer sales amounting to CZK 2,569 million. The year-on-year increase in sales was 7.3%. “Last year, the receipts grew twice as fast as the volume of the beer sales. Our focus on producing and selling premium lager turns out to be a step in the right direction. I am glad that Budweiser Budvar is a credit to Czech brewing both at home and abroad,” comments on the results Budweiser Budvar’s managing director Petr Dvořák. The complete economic results will be made public after an audit at the end of the first half of 2019.
In 2018 Budweiser Budvar continued to implement the development plan that was launched in 2015. Within this plan, an automated logistics centre worth CZK 780 million and a new department of the lager cellar were put into operation last autumn. This year, the construction of a building for the third bottling room and a new department for main fermentation will follow. After the completion of all planned investments, with a total value of approximately CZK 2,000 million, the annual brewery production will increase to more than 2 million hectolitres.
