Pale lager CZECHVAR from Budweiser Budvar Brewery was awarded a gold medal in the USA
Pale lager from Budweiser Budvar won another gold medal in an international competition. 1,000 beer samples in 97 categories were registered in this year’s 16th “Los Angeles International Beer Competition”. More than 100 certified beer tasters, brewing masters and managers from the American brewing industry sat in specialized panels.
Pale lager from Budweiser Budvar, which is exported under the brand name of Czechvar to the USA and some other countries, mostly on the American continent, won the category No. 29 - Bohemian-Style Pilsner. The Complete results can be found here.
“This has been the third medal won by the Czechvar brand in the USA during the past two years. The favourable assessment of the jurors seems to concur with the views of ordinary consumers on the flavour of our lager, as the sales of the Czechvar brand in the United States increased by a quarter in 2013-2015,” says Budweiser Budvar’s PR manager Petr Samec. The company of “United States Beverage” (hereinafter referred to as the USB) has been the Czechvar brand’s distributor in the USA since 2012. It is a company focused on importing and distributing premium and so-called “craft beer” brands to the United States. CZECHVAR pale lager is currently exported to the USA in bottles and barrels, while dark lager is exported in bottles and non-returnable KEY-KEG barrels.
The CZECHVAR brand was created for the North American market in 2000, as Budweiser Budvar cannot use its traditional trademarks of “Budweiser Budvar”, “Budweiser”, “Budweis” and “Bud” in the territory north of Panama under the trademark contract of 1939. Therefore, only the abbreviation of “B.B.N.P.”, consisting of the initial letters of the brewery’s full name in Czech (Budějovický Budvar, národní podnik), is mentioned on the CZECHVAR beer labels instead of the producer’s name.
