Yesterday, the results of the oldest modern beer competition in the Czech Republic were made public in LINDR mini-brewery in Mžany near Hradec Králové. The Beer Friends Association (hereinafter referred to as the BFA) presented the results of this year’s opinion poll of the best beers, breweries and brewing personalities of 2015 in a total of 11 categories. The evaluation takes place in two rounds. In the first round, each BFA member can give up to three votes. The beers on the 1st-3rd places in the opinion poll are evaluated in the second round by the members of the Beer Assembly and the BFA board in a form of anonymous professional tasting. All the samples are purchased by the BFA in the commercial network.

Dark lager Budweiser Budvar B:Dark won in the “Dark Beer of the Year”. In addition to that, Budweiser Budvar Brewery came third in the “Brewery of the Year” category.

“This competition is the only one in the Czech Republic that reflects the popularity of individual beers as well as their quality in two rounds. The results of the opinion poll evince the views of highly qualified consumers - people who know a lot about beer, many of them brewing it themselves as well. We very much appreciate that our lager has been favoured by the BFA’s members in the long term,” says Budweiser Budvar’s brewmaster Adam Brož, Ph.D., MBA. Since 2006, a total of 10 medals have been awarded to Budweiser Budvar Dark Lager by the BFA. Besides that, the lager has received many international awards as well, the most important being two gold medals from the Monde Selection competition (in 2010 and 2011) and chiefly, the “World Best Lager“ title awarded by the British magazine “Beers of the World“ in 2007.

Budweiser Budvar Dark Lager is brewed using four types of malt barley (Czech, Munich, caramel and roasted) and whole Saaz hops. The beer is characterised by a very dark colour, a dry and mildly bitter caramel flavour without a dominating sweetness and a delicate aroma of roasted barley and coffee. The alcohol content is 4.7% vol. The lager was launched on the market for the first time in 2004. Besides the Czech Republic, it is sold in other countries, e.g. Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and Finland.
