Budweiser Budvar’s brewmaster Adam Brož has received the Annual Award of the Czech and Moravian Beer Academy for 2014
The Czech and Moravian Beer Academy (hereinafter referred to as CMBA) presented the results of its members’ poll, granting the 2014 Annual Awards to significant personalities of the Czech brewing industry. Budweiser Budvar, N.C.’s brewmaster Adam Brož, Ph.D. won in the category of “Breweries with annual sales over 500,000 hectolitres”. The family of Mr. Karl Jan Kolarik received the 2014 Annual Award for a long-term contribution to the Czech brewing industry. The Kolarik family owns the iconic “Schweizerhaus” restaurant located in Vienna’s Prater. This restaurant has long drawn the largest volume of pale lager Budweiser Budvar in the world. Furthermore, the Kolarik family is the oldest business partner of Budweiser Budvar Brewery - their mutual continuous cooperation has been endured since 1926.
“The CMBA’s poll expressed their perspicuous respect for the world's unique tradition of Czech beer. The category winners of breweries with different annual sales are virtually without exception only names, who have always considered the very difficult style of Czech lager a professional pride,” says CMBA founder and the editor in chief of the professional monthly magazine “Pivo, Bier & Ale”, Pavel Borowiec.

Budweiser Budvar, N.C. had a very successful year, having sold a total of 1,457,000 hectolitres of beer, which represents a year-on-year production increase by 2.5 % and at the same time the highest annual sales in the history of the brewery. It was mainly export that participated in the good economic results, as 813,000 hectolitres of beer headed for 70 countries, which is 6% more than in 2013. Furthermore, last year’s takings of the brewery annually grew by 7% reaching the amount of CZK 2,300 million.
CMBA was established and has been supported by the professional monthly magazine “Pivo, Bier & Ale” in order to introduce the most significant personalities of the Czech brewing industry - a traditional branch of industry in which the Czech Republic ranks amongst five world powers. Only a professional who works in the field of brewing, malting or hop growing can become a member of CMBA. The Academy votes on the first places in the categories in a classical way when only the winners from previous years choose the winners of the evaluated calendar year.
