The pale lager of the Budweiser Budvar brand was awarded a Monde Selection gold medal

27. 6. 2013 | České Budějovice

The pale lager of the Budweiser Budvar brand was awarded yet another important medal for quality. In this year's worldwide Monde Selection awards, Budweiser Budvar brewery’s flagship product was awarded a gold medal. The pale lager participates in the brewery’s production by 55%, being exported to nearly 60 countries around the world and taking part in the beer export from the Czech Republic by almost one fifth.

“Having been awarded the gold Monde Selection medal represents a great piece of news for us and for our customers in particular. The assessment was carried out by Belgian experts, many of which belong to world renowned experts in the brewing industry. What is especially important is the fact that our beer has been getting gold Monde Selection medals repeatedly since 1987. For consumers these medals guarantee our beer’s continuous excellent quality in the long term,” says Budweiser Budvar’s brewmaster Adam Brož, Ph.D.

Budweiser Budvar Premium Lager has been awarded as many as nine gold medals and one silver medal in Monde Selection since 1987. Other Budweiser Budvar’s products have also been successful in the competition. Budweiser Budvar Dark Lager has so far been awarded two gold medals and one silver medal, so has the beer specialty Bud Premier Select, while the pale lager of the Pardál Echt brand and Budweiser Budvar Non-Alcoholic Beer both have received a gold medal in the past.

The Monde Selection contest ranks amongst the most prestigious and largest international quality competitions, this year being the 52nd in a row. A total of 3,234 products from 87 countries of all continents were registered for the contest. 360 beer samples from 113 breweries in 70 countries were tested in the beer category. The Monde Selection competition has been organised by the Belgian International Quality Institute (www.monde-selection.com/en/). The Institute is an independent organisation, focusing on objective and professional evaluation of products’ quality. The awarded medals serve as a guarantee of the overall quality of tested products for consumers. The beer evaluation consists of a professional assessment of its sensory qualities, laboratory analyses, microbiological tests and the quality of packaging. For instance, twenty so-called organoleptic parameters were assessed. The tasting was carried out by a board of the best Belgian experts from the brewing industry, university professors and professional tasters. Many of the board members work for the Belgian Meurice Institute (www.heldb.be/he/meurice), which is considered a worldwide renowned expert organization in the field of brewing and fermentation technology.
