Budweiser Budvar has commenced the construction of a new modern warehouse worth CZK 87 million
Budweiser Budvar, N.C. begun working on the construction of a new fully-computerised warehouse for finished products, which is going to be Budweiser Budvar’s highest investment of this year amounting to CZK 87.2 million and at same time one of the largest logistic projects ever in Budweiser Budvar’s history. The warehouse is going to be one of the most modern ones in the Czech Republic.
“The main objectives of the investment are to increase the capacity of the warehouses for finished products and to improve the overall effectiveness of our warehouse system in order to respond more flexibly to our customers’ orders,” says Budweiser Budvar’s brewing and technical director and maltster Adam Brož, who is in charge of the project. The warehouse is going to be 24 metres tall and will become a new dominating feature of the brewery’s premises. The warehouse’s capacity is going to be 3,000 pallet places. Considering that beer is stored in regular crates of 20 half-litre bottles, the warehouse will hold 12,000 hectolitres of beer, i.e. 2,400,000 bottles.
The new warehouse is going to use the most up-to-date logistic technologies. “To manage the flow of the pallets, we are going to use the RFID technology, which so far has not been used in the Czech Republic for that particular purpose,” says Budweiser Budvar’s purchase and logistic department’s manager Pavel Pánek. The output of the fully-computerised system is going to be 100 pallet semi-cycles (i.e. stocking in/stocking out) an hour. “Thanks to that, all the processes of the storing system are going to significantly quicken and optimise,” adds Pavel Pánek.
Following the finalisation of the project, the whole of Budweiser Budvar’s warehouse structure will be controlled by a newly implemented Warehouse Management System (WMS), which will be able to communicate with the brewery’s already established ERP system. SSi Schäfer is the general supplier of the equipment. The new system is going to be put in testing operation in October 2009.
In 2008, Budweiser Budvar N.C. invested the total of CZK 282 million into the development of the brewery. This year’s anticipated investment amounts to CZK 479 million, which are expected to e.g. increase the capacity of commercial centres within the Czech Republic, restore the machinery in the bottling room and purchase new crates and kegs.
